OUR STORY

From idea to reality: The evolution of

Alpha Female Empowerment Initiative through Dedication, Family and Service

Alpha Female Empowerment Initiative (AFEI) is an organization that is sustainable, credible, effective, efficient and committed to improving the welfare of female street kids and other vulnerable children.

We meet the needs of homeless children, families and those suffering to transform their lives through vocational skills training programs. We want to lift up the children of today to become the next generation of Uganda leaders and citizens with spiritual morals and values. As they grow, these amazing children will become productive Ugandan citizens and conscious disciples of Christ.

Learn to do right, seek justice, defend the oppressed.

Where we began

Alpha Female Empowerment Initiative (AFEI) is a Christian-based, non-profit, non-governmental organization operating in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda in East Arica. Our journey started in 2012 when a group of social workers and medical workers chose to take action to empower the children on the streets.

We started with 12 young boys at a transition home in Kawala. They all went through our rehabilitation program and five of them joined primary school on our scholarship. These scholarships are funded by generous supporters like you.

We have resettled 87 children from the streets back to their families since 2012!

To begin with our initial focus at AFEI is mainly identifying homeless girls and teenage mothers, enrolling female street kids into rehabilitation services, tracing the family homes of these children both to help them resettle and also to empower these families through vocational skills. Craft making, beading, wooden toy making, tailoring, hair dressing, and shoe making are taught to teenage mothers in slums and those living on the streets in order to build self-reliance while still supported by the generosity of well-wishers, volunteers, community individuals and local leaders.

As we got to know the families, communities, girls and women better, we discovered deeper challenges:

  • poor parenting

  • drug abuse, poverty

  • HIV/AIDS

  • lack of sexual reproductive health services

  • rights of youth

  • girl school dropout due to lack of sanitary wear.

To meet these challenges we embarked on working with youth and families in poor communities through empowering and supporting them in their physical, spiritual, educational, economic, behavioral and psychosocial improvements.
Our purpose of engaging with this challenge is to impact them in the here and now and to reduce the number of children believing they need to live on the streets.

OUR MISSION

To advocate for the rights of children and restore hope among homeless teenage mothers and other vulnerable children in poor communities.

OUR GOAL

Anything Is Possible

The main goal of the ministry is to provide the homeless and vulnerable children with a safe, loving environment to call a home. To help shape and restore their lost hope and future through sharing the gospel and love of God. We provide the love of Jesus, education, medical needs, medical care and shelter in a family style environment.

The children are spiritually discipled and equipped, and as they grow the goal is for them to become responsible Christians and productive Ugandan citizens.
