Contribute to digging life saving wells for cleaner water in slums

Alpha Female Empowerment Initiative (AFEI) is a Christian-based, non-profit, non-governmental organization operating in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda in East Arica.

Our mission is to advocate for the rights of children and restore hope among homeless teenage mothers and other vulnerable children in poor communities.

One urgent project that we are running is to dig wells to open the flow of clean water to 1000s of families otherwise drinking contaminated water in slums. We need more wells and are calling for your support!

Each year, waterborne diseases afflict millions of women and children in Uganda, primarily those living without safe, accessible water. Of the most common waterborne diseases in the world, diarrhea is the most dangerous in our community.

Waterborne diseases are illnesses caused by microscopic organisms, like viruses and bacteria, that are ingested through contaminated water or by coming in contact with feces.

The latest research shows that diarrhea is the second leading cause of death for children under the age of five, causing more childhood deaths than malaria, AIDS, and measles combined. That’s hundreds of thousands of deaths, but there is hope for the future. Experts believe we can end the global water and sanitation crisis in our lifetime.

If every person on the planet was able to practice safe sanitation and hygiene and have access to clean water, these diseases would not exist. Governments, NGOs, and communities themselves have made great strides in the past 20 years to end waterborne diseases. Still, there is much to be done.

At AFEI, we not only provide sanitation and medical support to those affected by contaminated water, we also work to prevent these diseases by digging wells to open the flow of clean water to 1000s of families.

Our plan and goal

Our goal is to raise 5000 dollar for this important project, which will make it possible for us to dig a new well in the Katwe slum, which is one of the largest slums in Kampala Uganda (known from the movie “Queen of Katwe”).

This well will be able to support around 200 families receiving clean water and the money will be used in digging the well, acquiring a solar pump and its accessories and buying a 10000 liter tank, as well as fence around the water source.

We appreciate every donation greatly and invite you to follow our work through  our instagram page  as well as contacting us with any questions on the project.
